New Jersey Issues RFP For Psychiatric Involuntary Inpatient Beds Following Sale Of Runnells Specialized Hospital

On June 30, 2014, New Jersey Department of Human Services, Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) released a request for proposals (RFP) seeking one or more contractors to provide at least 44 involuntary inpatient psychiatric beds for the adult population, inclusive of the geriatric population, in Union and Middlesex Counties. Previously, these beds have been provided by the Union County-owned Runnells Specialized Hospital, a 102-year-old hospital facility with 300 long-term care beds and 44 beds for adult psychiatric care. On May 15, 2014, the Union County freeholders approved selling the hospital for $26 million . . .
