New Jersey To Provide Temporary Safety-Net Funding For Non-Medicaid Behavioral Health During Shift To Fee-For-Service

The New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) is preparing to shift non-Medicaid behavioral health services from cost reimbursement to fee-for-service (FFS) on July 1, 2017, and is planning to provide access to temporary funding as a safety net for behavioral health provider organizations that experience a shortfall in the first few months resulting from the shift. The transition affects provider organizations delivering most state-funded community-based mental health, substance use disorder, and developmental disability treatment services.
