New Jersey To Pilot Law Enforcement-Sponsored Community Crisis Response In Six Counties

The New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety (LPS) plans to pilot a grant-funded community crisis response program in six counties (Camden, Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, and Passaic). The pilot is one of the provisions of Assembly Bill 5326/Senate Bill 4250, the Seabrooks-Washington Community-Led Crisis Response Act, which Governor Phil Murphy signed on January 12, 2024. The legislation appropriated $12 million to support the grants (at $2 million per county) and established a Community Crisis Response Advisory Council.

LPS intends to release a competitive procurement to select community-based organizations to operate crisis response teams . . .
