New Mexico Attorney General Sues CYFD, Alleges Misuse Of Confidentiality Laws To Block Oversight Of Child Welfare System
New Mexico’s attorney general has filed a lawsuit against the state’s child welfare agency, the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD), alleging the agency has misused confidentiality laws to block oversight, silence critics, and avoid accountability for systemic failures that have placed children at risk.
The April 8, 2026 lawsuit was filed the same day the New Mexico Department of Justice (NMDOJ) released an investigative report detailing concerns within CYFD.
