New Mexico Enters Corrective Plan For Child Welfare Settlement

The New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) entered a new corrective action plan on June 30, 2023, for the 2020 Kevin S. settlement agreement to create a more robust system of care for children and families. In the corrective action plan, CYFD described new efforts to create more family-based placements to ensure that sufficient resource homes are available. The efforts include public/private partnerships to recruit and retain resource families and two county-level pilots focused on local efforts to improve communications between CYFD, the courts, resource families, and foster youth.
