New Ohio Legislation Allows Non-Nursing Medical Staff To Administer Medication & Services To Consumers With I/DD

On May 25, 2016, the Ohio legislature passed House Bill (HB) 483 that will allow non-nursing medical staff to administer medication and services to people with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD). Starting October 11, 2016, facilities housing 17 or more residents that are licensed as intermediate care facilities for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (ICF/DD), residential care facilities, or nursing homes can allow certified medication aides to administer oral and topical medications, including drops to the eye, ear, or nose.
