New York Awards $85 Million For ‘Step-Down’ Programs To Transition Hospitalized People With Co-Occurring Mental Illness & Developmental Disabilities
The New York Office of Mental Health (OMH) awarded five organizations contracts, valued together at $85 million over five years, to provide step-down programs for people with mental illness and developmental disabilities who are hospitalized and ready to return to their communities. The awards were announced on March 11, 2025. The step-down programs pair critical time intervention teams with transitional housing to ensure these individuals can live in independent settings once they are discharged from a hospital or other inpatient settings.
