New York City Ends Rikers Island Jail Health Care Contract With Corizon Health

On June 10, 2015, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio announced that the city was ending its Rikers Island jail medical contract with Corizon Health as of December 31, 2015. All services will be assumed by the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC), which oversees the city’s public hospitals. HHC will be responsible for physical, behavioral, and dental health services at all city Department of Correction (DOC) facilities. Corizon had held the contract for Rikers Island since 2001.
