New York City Schools To Screen Nearly All Students For Dyslexia & Open Two New Dyslexia Programs To Teach Reading

For the 2022-2023 school year, New York City schools will screen nearly all students for dyslexia. The New York City Department of Education (DOE) also intends to open two new dyslexia programs to teach reading to students with dyslexia. The plans were announced on May 12, 2022.

The DOE is launching a Dyslexia Task Force that will develop a policy paper by August 2022. The paper will outline the New York City public schools’ vision and approach to supporting students at risk of and/or living with dyslexia inclusive of multilingual learners and students from communities of dense dialect . . .
