New York City Seeks To Create Safe Injection Sites

New York City seeks to create safe injection sites for illegal drug users. Under the plan announced in May 2018, the sites would operate as Overdose Prevention Centers and financed and run by non-profit organizations. Trained staff would be available to administer naloxone to counteract opioid overdoses; social workers would be on-site to provide counseling and referral to addiction treatment programs. The city is considering locating the Overdose Prevention Centers within social service provider organizations that currently operate needle-exchange sites in Washington Heights and Midtown West in Manhattan; the Longwood section of the Bronx; and Gowanus, Brooklyn . . .
