New York Claimed Some Unallowable Costs Under Its Developmental Disabilities Waiver
The New York Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) claimed federal reimbursement for waiver program services that did not comply with certain federal and state requirements during 2006 through 2008 for the state’s Developmental Disabilities (DD) waiver program. A federal review of a random sample of 137 beneficiary months found 37 that did not comply with waiver requirements for the written plan of care. The value of the improper claims was $79,000. At this error rate, the state could have improperly claimed up to $76.8 million in federal Medicaid reimbursement.
