New York Cracks Down On ‘Ghost Networks’ With 10-Day Behavioral Health Access Standard
New York state implemented a new behavioral health network adequacy regulation intended to prevent insurance plans from including so-called ‘ghost network’ entries in their provider organization network directories. The regulation also establishes a 10-day access standard for initial outpatient behavioral health appointments.
A ghost network has inaccurate information that appears to offer in-network options that are not available to members and includes professionals who are not accepting appointments. Going forward, the directories must include the name of the health care professional or facility, the provider organization’s location, telehealth options, languages spoken, any restrictions concerning the conditions . . .
