NIH Cuts To Biomedical Funding Grants Temporarily Blocked
On February 7, 2025, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced plans to cut the percentage of research grants that could be used to cover indirect costs. In supplemental guidance to the NIH Grants Policy Statement, only 15% of funds for existing and future grants could be used to cover indirect costs. Previously, the percentage was negotiated grant by grant. The change was temporarily blocked by a restraining order issued on February 10 in response to a lawsuit filed by the Association of American Medical Colleges and other plaintiffs.
