Nine states were awarded federal funding to help them implement school-based health programs with reimbursement through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The funding was awarded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to Alaska, Kansas, Maryland, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Over the three-year grant period, the states will expand coverage and billing for health and mental health services provided in schools according to a student’s individualized education program (IEP) or individualized family services program (IFSP).
