The eight-county region of North Texas is managing ongoing challenges facing children and families, according to a recent analysis. Challenges span health, economic security, safety, and education. As an example of health challenges in the region, the report stated more than half of pediatric emergency visits in Dallas and Tarrant counties were preventable. Childhood obesity rates exceeded 45% in some counties. Respiratory conditions, such as asthma, worsened amid declining air quality, according to the analysis.
