Number Of Charitable Donors Down 4.5% In 2024

The number of donors to non-profit charities fell 4.5% in 2024 and donor retention declined by 2.6%, but despite the downward trend, there was a projected 3.5% increase in dollars contributed that year. Across charitable sectors, more than 60% of donations in 2024 were for human service organizations (29.3%), education charities (19.2%), and health-related organizations (12.4%). The remaining 40% of donations were for arts and culture charities (3.2%), environment and animals (4.9%), international and foreign affairs (3.2%), public or social benefit (6.9%), religion-related (8.9%), or unknown . . .
