Nurse Shortage To Hit 362,000 By 2032
The health care system can expect a shortage of 362,000 nurses by 2032, according to a recent report. Causes include high turnover, the long-term effects on the profession of the COVID public health emergency, and limits on immigration, the study stated.
Along with overall workforce challenges, a generational retirement shift is coming to the nursing profession, which is predicted to contribute to the projected shortfall. More than one million nurses are expected to choose retirement by 2030, which aligns with the median age of registered nurses rising from 41.9 in 2000 to 46 in 2022.
