Ohio Revises Charter School Performance Statistics – 10 Times More Failing Charter Schools & 50% Fewer High-Performing Charters

In a January 29, 2016, letter to the federal Department of Education, the Ohio Department of Education revised its charter school performance statistics to align with new state performance definitions. As a result, the state reported that during the 2013-2014 school year, instead of the six failing charter schools it had reported under the federal definition, under the new state definition, 57 charter schools failed to meet state performance standards. Further the number of high-performing charter schools dropped by nearly 50%, from 93 to 59.
