Oklahoma Reduces Developmental Disabilities Services Wait Time From 13 Years Down To One Year
On April 28, 2025, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) announced that the wait time for developmental disability services has been reduced to one year, down from 13 years in 2021 when OKDHS began changing its wait list management system. In 2022, the legislature provided OKDHS with additional funding to cover the costs of moving people from the wait list to home- and community-based (HCBS) waiver services. OKDHS has now started processing the tenth cohort to move from the wait list to services. The state aims to make Oklahoma a ‘no-wait state’ for developmental disability support.
