Older Adults Who Report Food Insecurity At Risk Of Faster Decline In Executive Function

Medicare beneficiaries over age 65 who reported experiencing food insecurity had a faster decline in executive function compared to those who did not experience food insecurity, according to a study that followed 3,037 community-dwelling older adults for up to seven years between 2012 through 2019. Within this group, 12.2% (417 participants) reported experiencing food insecurity at least once between 2012 and 2019. In 2020, 6.8% of adults over age 60 experienced food insecurity, representing 5.2 million people.
