Older Adults With ADHD At Increased Risk For Developing Dementia
Older adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are 2.8 times more likely to develop dementia than adults without adult ADHD. Rates of dementia per 10,000 person-years were estimated at 5.19 for those with adult ADHD and 1.44 for those without adult ADHD.
The higher risk was identified in a large study in Israel involving more than 109,000 older adults ages 51 to 70 without an ADHD or dementia diagnosis when the study began in January 2003. During follow-up through February 28, 2020, 730 participants (0.7%) received a first diagnosis of ADHD . . .
