One In Five RNs Planning To Leave Health Care In Five Years
Since the start of COVID-19, approximately 100,000 registered nurses (RNs) in the U.S. have left the nursing profession. According to an analysis of the 2022 National Nursing Workforce Study, another 20% (almost 900,000) are expected to leave the workforce by 2027.
Stress and burnout were cited as the primary reasons for the attrition. Of respondents polled, 62% reported an increase in their workload during COVID-19 and 50.8% said that they felt emotionally drained, 56.4% said they felt "used up," 49.7% said they feel fatigued, and 45.1% said they felt burned out . . .
