One In Three Medicaid Expansion Adults Who Are Working Or In School Could Lose Coverage Under Work Requirements Due To Unstable Employment
An analysis of Medicaid-enrolled adults ages 19 to 64 in Affordable Care Act (ACA) Medicaid expansion states who are not parents or guardians living with dependent children and are not eligible for Medicaid based on a disability found that many who are working or in school could possibly lose coverage under new Medicaid work requirements that will take effect in 2027. Although 69% of these expansion enrollees worked or attended school while enrolled in Medicaid, about 1 in 3 of that group would not have met proposed work requirements in one or more months due to unstable employment.
