More Than One-Third Of Maryland Medicare-Medicaid Dual Eligibles Had A Mental Health Claim During 2012

About 38% of Maryland residents fully eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid during 2012 had at least one Medicare claim with a mental health diagnosis code, representing 33,289 of the 87,728 dual eligibles in the state. About 43% of the 33,289 individuals with mental health claims had more than one mental health condition and 22.3% (7,421 people) also had a diagnosis of schizophrenia or psychosis.
