Opioid Prescriptions For Medicaid Members On The Decline
Opioid prescriptions for Medicaid beneficiaries in the U.S. are on the decline, down 44% from 2016 to 2019 (from about 26.2 million to 14.7 million). During these same years, prescriptions for medications used to treat opioid addiction or rapidly reverse opioid overdose doubled (from about 3.5 million to 7.1 million), underscoring federal and state interest in addressing the current opioid overdose crisis.
