Opioid Use Disorder Estimated To Cost $695,000 Per Person In 2022

Opioid use disorder (OUD) in the United States was estimated to cost $695,000 per person with OUD in 2022, according to a new analysis by Avalere Health. The estimated per-person annual cost of OUD accounts for health care costs, criminal justice costs, lost productivity, lower quality of life, and higher burden of illness. The study found a positive impact of outpatient treatment modalities for individuals with OUD and other stakeholders, suggesting the significant potential to reduce the total national cost of OUD by increasing treatment rates.
