CMS Approves Oregon 1115 Medicaid Waiver Renewal Provisions For Continuous Eligibility, Coverage Expansion & SDOH

On September 28, 2022, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) announced that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved renewing the state’s Section 1115 Medicaid waiver demonstration. The five-year renewal covers existing programs and includes new initiatives for continuous eligibility, coverage expansion, and coverage of social determinants of health (SDOH). Most of the extension's changes will launch in 2024; however, some will begin in 2023.

Under the agreement, Oregon will receive $1.1 billion in new federal funds to address SDOHs such as inadequate food, housing and other root-cause issues that lead to poor health . . .
