Oregon Drug Overdose Deaths Increased 40% From 2019 To 2021
The number of overdose deaths in Oregon rose 40% between 2019 and 2021, from about 600 in 2019 to nearly 1,000 in 2021. The number of opioid overdose deaths related to fentanyl and other synthetic opioids increased by 83%, however specific numbers were not offered. In 2021, there were 548 stimulant-related overdose deaths, up 37% from about 400 in 2020.
The number of overdoses involving multiple drugs also increased. More than half (54%) of all unintentional or undetermined intent fatal overdoses in 2021 were due to polysubstance overdoses. About 89% of fatal overdoses due to multiple substances involved . . .
