Oregon Revamps Addiction Treatment Approach
On April 1, 2024, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek signed legislation, House Bill 4002, to modify the state’s addiction treatment approach to combat the fentanyl overdose crisis. The legislation modifies Measure 110, a ballot measure passed in 2020, which decriminalized possession and use of drugs. Under House Bill 4002, starting in September 2024, people found in possession of small amounts of hard drugs will be charged with a misdemeanor.
