Out-of-pocket health care costs for a 65-year-old retiring in 2026 are estimated at an average of $185,500 throughout retirement, up 7.5% from $172,500 for a person retiring in 2025.
The estimate is based on a single person retiring at age 65 who does not have employer-provided retiree health coverage and is enrolled in Original Medicare Parts A and B and Medicare Part D.
