Pediatric Mental Health Hospitalizations Decline For First Time Since 2009, But 1 In 5 Pediatric Hospitalizations Are For Mental Health
Between 2019 and 2022, the total number of pediatric mental health hospitalizations declined for the first time since 2009, according to a recent study. However, the number of mental health hospitalizations as a percentage of total hospitalizations increased steadily from 11.5% in 2009 to 20.1% in 2022.
In 2019, there were 201,932 youth mental health hospitalizations; in 2022, there were 191,710.
