Pennsylvania Issues Collaborative Documentation Guidelines For Behavioral Health
On January 15, 2015, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS), Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) released guidelines for implementing collaborative documentation in Pennsylvania’s public behavioral health system. The guidelines will specifically allow behavioral health provider organizations to bill Medicaid separately for collaborative documentation provided by Certified Peer Specialists and other behavioral health professionals. The new guidelines are in response to previous confusion about the collaborative goal setting that is part of the therapeutic relationship and may be associated with non-billable aspects of documentation (see Pennsylvania Medicaid Nixes Collaborative Documentation For Peer Services).
