People With Anxiety Or Depression Die Eight Years Earlier Than General Population
People diagnosed with anxiety or depression die about 7.9 years earlier than people without anxiety or depression. About 3.5% of deaths in the United States between 1999 and 2011 were attributable to anxiety or depression. However, people with anxiety or depression who had past year contact with a mental health professional did not have a higher mortality rate. People with untreated anxiety and depression have 1.61 times the risk of death than people in treatment or people without anxiety and depression.
