People With Diabetes & Cognitive Decline May Be At Higher Risk For Heart Disease
People with type 2 diabetes who have lower levels of cognitive function had a higher risk of heart attack and stroke than those with higher levels of cognitive function, according to the findings of an international study of 8,772 people with type 2 diabetes. Those who had substantive cognitive impairment (SCI) were up to 1.6 times more likely to experience major adverse cardiovascular events, such as a nonfatal myocardial infarction than those without SCI. Those with SCI were 1.9 times more likely to experience a stroke or die compared to those without SCI.
