Physician Assistant Workforce Grew 5.9% In 2025 To More Than 201,000
The number of board-certified physician assistants (PAs) in the United States reached 201,038 by the end of 2025, according to a recent report. This represents a 5.9% increase from 2024 and a 26.9% increase from 2021.
About 2.4% of PAs in 2025 specialized in psychiatry, up from 2.0% in 2021. Another 0.5% specialized in addiction medicine, about the same percentage as in 2021.
