Post-Hospitalization Mortality Rate 41% Higher For Medicare Beneficiaries Unable To Access Home Health
Medicare beneficiaries who were unable to access home health care in 2023 had a death rate 41% higher than those who received timely home health care. Those with access to home health had a 7.8% mortality rate, compared to 11.0% for those without access to home health. In 2023, 35.7% of Medicare beneficiaries who were directed to home health after a hospitalization did not access home health, compared to 34.9% in 2022.
Hospital readmission rates were 34% lower for beneficiaries who accessed home health and the 90-day per person cost-of-care was 5.2 . . .
