Potentially Inappropriate CNS-Active Prescribing In Older Adults Declines From 19.9% To 16.2%
Among older adults, the prevalence of potentially inappropriate prescribing of central nervous system (CNS)-active medications declined from 19.9% in 2013 to 16.2% in 2021. However, among those who received potentially inappropriate CNS-active prescriptions in 2021, 70.4% lacked documented clinical indications.
The percentage of prescriptions with clinical indications remained similar over time, at 6.0% in 2013 and 5.5% in 2021; the difference was not statistically significant. Potentially inappropriate prescriptions without clinical indications declined from 15.7% to 11.4% during the period.
The researchers analyzed data from 4,842 adults age 65 and older . . .
