Prevalence Of Dementia 61% Higher Among Older Adults With Moderate To Severe Hearing Loss Compared To Those With Normal Hearing

The prevalence of dementia among older adults with moderate to severe hearing loss is 61% higher than among those with normal hearing. However, among those with hearing loss who use a hearing aid, the prevalence of dementia is 32% lower compared to those who do not use a hearing aid.

In a study that included 853 older adults with moderate/severe hearing loss, 10.3% had dementia. About 36.7% of the participants had mild hearing loss and 29.8% had moderate-to-severe hearing loss.
