Prevalence Of Dementia Across Long-Term Care Settings Ranges From 25% To 46%
Across seven post-acute and long-term care (LTC) settings during 2020, the share of participants with dementia ranged from about 25% to 45% depending on the setting. The prevalence of dementia was 25% for adult day service centers, 35% for home health provider organizations, 37% for inpatient rehabilitation facilities, 45% for hospice, 45% for long-term care hospitals, 46% for nursing homes, and 42% for residential care communities.
In addition to a high prevalence of dementia, people using LTC had a high prevalence of other chronic health conditions such as depression, diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension.
