Prevalence Of Major Depressive Disorder Among Youth Ages 15 To 17 Doubled Between 2019 & 2022
The prevalence of major depressive disorder (MDD) among youth in the U.S. ages 15 to 17 years doubled, from 3.0% to 6.0%, between 2019 and 2022 (during COVID-19), according to analysis of member claims by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) Association and Blue Health Intelligence. The analysis included data from more than 24 million BCBS claims for commercially insured youth ages 6 to 17 years who were enrolled between 2018 and 2023. During this period, more than one million youth were diagnosed with MDD.
