Prevalence Of Major Depressive Disorder Among Youth Ages 15 To 17 Doubled Between 2019 & 2022
The prevalence of major depressive disorder (MDD) among youth in the U.S. ages 15 to 17 years doubled, from 3.0% to 6.0%, between 2019 and 2022 (during COVID-19), according to an analysis of member claims by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) and Blue Health Intelligence. Among youth ages 11 to 14, the prevalence of MDD increased from 1.9% in 2019 to 2.6% in 2022. Among youth ages 6 to 10, the prevalence of MDD remained at 0.3% between 2019 and 2022.
