Previous Traumatic Brain Injury Associated With Higher Risk Of Frontotemporal Dementia
About 19% of people diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia had a history of traumatic brain injury (TBI), and those who had a history of TBI had an earlier age of onset of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) symptoms. A history of TBI was more often associated with sporadic FTD cases, rather than cases associated with genetic risk. By comparison, about 13% of people with Alzheimer’s disease and 12% of cognitively normal people had a history of TBI.
