At age 65, the amount needed in 2025 to self-pay future long-term care (LTC) needs at commercial insurance market rates is $135,000 without Medicaid, according to the inaugural Milliman LTC index. The benchmark LTC cost for women is $171,000 and $98,000 for men. However, LTC costs vary widely based on sex, geography, and length of need.
