Provider Networks & Cost Are Keys To Health Plan Choice For Privately Insured Adults

Provider networks are the most important consideration for privately insured adults choosing a health plan. Out-of-pocket cost-sharing, prescription drug coverage, and premiums were also important factors influencing plan selection. Most privately insured adults reported having a choice of two to four health plan options.

The importance of cost-related considerations varied by plan type. Among respondents enrolled in traditional health plans, lower out-of-pocket cost-sharing was the most important cost-related factor. Among those enrolled in high-deductible health plans (HDHPs), lower premiums were the most important cost-related consideration.
