Repeated Ketamine Infusions Improve Symptoms & Comorbid Depression In Chronic PTSD

Repeated ketamine infusions over two weeks were associated with large-magnitude improvement in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms compared with a psychoactive placebo (midazolam) in a small trial with 30 individuals with chronic PTSD. The participants each received six infusions over a two-week period. About 67% of those treated with ketamine attained treatment response compared with 20% of those who received midazolam. Those who received the ketamine infusions had marked improvements across three of the four PTSD symptom clusters: intrusions, avoidance, and negative alterations in cognitions and mood.
