Rhode Island Launches Medical Respite Care & Housing Pilot
On January 30, 2023, Rhode Island launched a medical respite care and housing pilot program for homeless or housing-insecure people preparing for or recovering from acute illness or injury. The program is managed by Westbay Community Action, and located at Hallworth House, in Providence. The respite services will be provided by multiple community partners. The Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) intends to extend the medical respite pilot in six-month increments, depending on the availability of funding and program performance. A key goal is reducing readmission rates among this population.
