Rhode Island To Pilot Safe Injection Sites
Rhode Island is planning to pilot harm reduction centers, also called overdose prevention sites or supervised consumption sites. This two-year pilot program will establish “harm reduction centers” to prevent drug overdoses and save lives. The community-based centers would provide health screening, disease prevention and recovery support services where persons may safely consume pre-obtained substances. Each harm reduction center will provide the necessary health care professionals to prevent overdose, and provide referrals for counseling or other medical treatment that may be appropriate for harm reduction center consumers.
