Risk For Severe Maternal Mental Health Disorders Continues To Rise
The risk for maternal mental health (MMH) disorders is rising in the United States, according to a recent evaluation of all 3,244 U.S. counties and county equivalents. Overall, the number of “high-risk” counties increased from 700 in 2023 to 796 in 2025, and the number of “severe-risk” counties increased from 24 in 2023 to 92 in 2025, with more urban centers facing critical service gaps. The researchers concluded that these shifts highlight an urgent need for targeted interventions to address systemic issues contributing to the MMH crisis.;
