Risk Of Medicaid Disenrollment Highest At Age 19 Among Young Adult Beneficiaries
Among older youth and young adult Medicaid beneficiaries aged 16 to 26 years between 2017 and 2019, the likelihood of disenrollment — defined as two or more months without Medicaid coverage — was highest at age 19. The likelihood of disenrollment was 13.4% among beneficiaries with complex medical conditions (CMCs) and 35.6% among those without CMCs. Among those who experienced disenrollment, 37.9% of beneficiaries with CMCs and 29.1% of those without CMCs reenrolled within 12 months.
