Safe Injection Site Use Reduces Emergency Department Use By 27% & Hospitalization By 32%
People who injected illicit drugs at a clandestine safe injection site had reduced chance of having an emergency department visit and hospitalization. Compared to people who did not use the site, those people who used the safe injection site were 27% less likely to make an emergency department visit; reported making 54% fewer emergency department visits in the previous six months. They had a 32% lower likelihood of hospitalization; and spent 50% fewer nights in a hospital.
