On March 14, 2023, the San Diego County District Attorney (DA) announced plans to develop a new mobile application that would connect homeless individuals with shelter beds within minutes. Currently, it can take up to 10 days for an outreach worker to connect someone with a homeless shelter bed. By the time a bed is found, the homeless person has often changed location.

The shelter bed finder app will provide prompt information about the capacity, quantity, and availability of shelter beds and services across the county. The app will also allow service provider organizations, health care organizations, emergency room personnel . . .
